In December 2025, the Tasmanian Stakes will be renamed "The Inevitable Stakes" to honour the celebrated racehorse, The Inevitable, who was known for his courage and achievements. The inaugural race will occur on December 28, 2025, in Hobart, Tasmania.

Bred by Alistair & Patty McFarlane at Tori Park Stud here in South Australia, The Inevitable was a $90,000 purchase from the Cornerstone Stud draft at 2017 Magic Millions Sales in Adelaide by Scott & David Brunton.

The Inevitable quickly became a cult figure in Australian racing, winning feature races across three states and amassing more than $2.17 million in stakes across a 48-start career.

The Inevitable was crowned joint Tasmanian Horse of the Year with Mystic Journey in 2020, then outright in 2023 after a career-best season. The Inevitable also featured as an SA Bred Horse of the year finalist in 22/23 Year.

Tragically, he passed away earlier this year due to an injury. The renamed race, with a prize purse of $125,000, will enhance the event's prestige and celebrate his legacy.
